2nd Grid Plugtests and the NorduGrid

The 2nd Plugtests serie of events will take place during the Grids@Work event on October 10-12 2005. The tests involve solving several tasks using the distributed computing environment - the Grid. It aims at demonstrating a possibility for an application-level interoperability between different Grid-like environments. The only requirement for the participating sites is to have some Grid middleware and Java installed. Participation in the event is an important step towards popularizing the Grid technologies.

 Detailed instructions

Coordinators of the exercise are Romain Quilici, and Mario Leyton, . Contact them for details about the event, conditions of your site involvement etc.

 Grid-wise preparation

Install the necessary CNRS CA keys, either from their official page or from the NorduGrid's download area. IMPORTANT: you have to install the full chain, that is, 3 keys:

The easiest is to install all the ca_CNRS*.rpm

Consider upgrading to NorduGrid ARC 0.4.5. This is the best release so far.

It is strongly recommended to upgrade your Globus installation to version 2.4.3-16ng (released on December 6, 2004), as it includes very important bug fixes.

 Runtime environment details

The runtime environment needed for the Plugtests is ENV/JAVA/JRE-1.4.2, available through the NorduGrid/NDGF RTE Registry. Most likely, your site already has Java 1.4.2 installed, such that the only step would be to properly describe it in the RTE script.

The sites have to enable both inbound and outbound connectivity for the worker nodes, as the model used in application relies on deployment of remotely accessible service on computing nodes. Please make sure there is no firewall blocking the connections.
